Sorel Joan of Arctic BootsCompany Overview:
Sorel is a subsidiary of Columbia Sportswear.
In 1959, the Sorel line was introduced by Ontario based company, Kaufman Footwear and became known worldwide as the leader in cold weather boots.  In 2000, the Sorel trademark was bought by Columbia Sportswear and the brand was expanded to other products including nylon outerwear and other work-related garments.  Prior to Kaufman’s bankruptcy, Sorel boots were made only in Canada; today they are imported from Vietnam.

Sorel Joan of Arctic BootsSorel Joan of Arctic Design Features:
Stylish design, with cold-weather performance, the Joan of Arctic fur laced boots are a winter fashionista’s footwear holy grail.
Starting with a fabulous, faux fur snow cuff on the high cut upper, it adds flair, helps keep the warmth in and the snow out!

The boot itself is crafted waterproof light weight, full-grain, suede leather.  Inside, a removable recycled felt InnerBoot and 2.5mm felt frost plug are rated to keep your tootsies warm down to -25°F.
Smooth buckles allow you to lace up and go, offering firm support from your ankle to your calf.
The square lug pattern on the rubber soles will grip an icy sidewalk or stairs with the best of Sorel’s boots.

Sorel Joan of Arctic BootsFunctionality in the Field:
As I have found with most Sorel boots, you won’t need to get an extra half-size bigger.  The boots are just made bigger and Sorel seems to have already taken into account thicker socks and any feet swelling from over activity.
The flexible suede leather is helpful when bending or needing to step up on your tippy toes.
The high calf length boots are made for warmth and fashion.
They are not made for running or hiking long distances, so be mindful of your activities when it comes to comfort.
They may be a bit bulky for some people, but they are definitely comfortable!

The same can be said for traction and stability.  These are great boots for everyday winter walking, errands and spectator activities.  I would not recommend them for backcountry hikes or areas with steep inclines.
I had the opportunity to try them out in Alaska on a sunny, -10F day and my feet stayed warm.
Be mindful  to wipe your feet when going indoors after trudging through slush and snow.  The water won’t penetrate the boot, but it will make floors wet and slippery.

As for fashion, pair them up with some skinny jeans and sweater and you will be warm and stylish!

Pros:  Furry Fun & Warm

Cons:  A little stiff in the arch.
